Shekhar Kapur reacts on SC’s decision on misleading brand advertisements by popular personalities

Shekhar Kapur supports SC’s decision on misleading advertisements endorsed by personalities

Auteur Shekhar Kapur celebrated the Supreme Court of India's recent order that advertisers and endorsers must act responsibly when endorsing consumer products, as they are equally responsible for issuing misleading advertisements. The court also mentioned that it is imperative for celebrities and public figures to act responsibly while endorsing a consumer product. "Finally! The Indian Supreme Court has stated that Personalities that endorse consumer products have a duty to ensure the products are neither misleading or harmful to the consumer. So, let’s start with Colas and Sugary drinks. 10% if Indians have diabetes, add 50% diabetics don’t know they have it! The personalities that promote Cola’s and other sugary drinks must now add that Colas are huge health risks," he wrote on social media.

Further explaining the move by the Supreme Court, Kapur, in response to a social media user, wrote, "If you’re endorsing a product or a company, and you are a public figure that can influence people, it should be assumed that you believe in what you are endorsing." As soon as Kapur shared his opinion on the Supreme Court's verdict, which came out recently, his fans and followers flagged the brands that need to take up responsibility for their products.

Finally: Shekhar Kapur as SC says celebs have to take onus of the product they're endorsing

On the work front, Kapur is gearing up for the release of 'Masoom - The Next Generation', which marks the acting debut of his daughter Kaveri Kapur. The film is based on the idea of home. "‘Masoom’ is the way of going back to just making the stories of the simplicity of being human and the complexity of being human but staying human and the story being human," Kapur had previously said in an interview.
